Keep Claude From Sending Messages Without You

What Claude can change in Ellipsend and how to set its permissions so nothing goes out without your approval.

Once Ellipsend is connected, Claude can do more than read. It can message your contacts and change their details. Those are real messages going to real people, so here's how to stay in control.

What Claude Can Do in Ellipsend

Claude's tools fall into two groups.

  • Read-only tools look at your data. They list recent contacts, read a contact and their messages, read a post, and list your pipeline stages and saved responses. Nothing changes.

  • Write/delete tools act on your account. They send DMs, reply to comments with a DM, post public comment replies, send saved responses, schedule follow-ups, and set a contact's label, stage, email or phone number.

Where to Change It

Open Settings, then Connectors, and click Ellipsend. You'll see both groups, each with a dropdown, and every tool starts on Needs approval.

Each dropdown has four options.

  • Always allow means Claude uses it without asking.

  • Needs approval means Claude asks you every time, and you click to approve.

  • Blocked means Claude can't use it at all.

  • Custom means you set each tool one by one.

What We Recommend

Set Read-only tools to Always allow, so Claude stops asking every time it looks something up.

Leave Write/delete tools on Needs approval. Claude can still draft a DM or suggest a stage change, but nothing goes out until you approve it. Before you approve, read what it's about to send.

If you only use Claude for questions and reports, set Write/delete tools to Blocked. Then it can't send anything, even by accident.

We don't recommend Always allow for the write tools. Claude reads your contacts' messages, and a message could contain text that tricks it into doing something you didn't ask for.

On a Team Plan

Your Claude admin controls whether anyone on the team can pick Always allow for write tools. It's the Allow "Always allow" for connector tools setting under Organization settings, then Capabilities. If you can't see Always allow for the write tools, that's why.
