How to Enable Messages in Facebook Settings

If your Facebook DM or comment automations aren't firing, your page may have messaging disabled. Here's how to turn it on.

1. Confirm messaging is the issue

If your Facebook automations look fully set up in Ellipsend but DMs still aren't going out when someone comments on a post, the most likely cause is that your Facebook page has messaging disabled. Without messaging enabled at the page level, no tool — including Ellipsend — can send DMs from your page.

A quick sanity check: try to message your own page from a personal Facebook account. If there's no option to send a message, the setting is off.

2. Open your page settings

After switching into your Facebook page, go to:

Settings & privacy > How people can find and contact you

3. Turn on messaging

Scroll down to the Messaging section.

Toggle Allow people to message your Page? to on.

4. Test it

Facebook says the change can take up to 24 hours, but in practice it usually takes effect right away.

To verify:

– Comment on a Facebook post that has an active Ellipsend automation attached

– Watch your DMs, the automated reply should send within seconds

– If it doesn't, wait a few minutes and try again

5. Confirm Ellipsend is the only active tool

If you've recently switched from another tool like Manychat or GHL, double-check that Ellipsend is the only service managing your page's messages. See How to Remove Competing Tools.
