Reconnect After a Password Change, a Disconnect, or Expired Permissions

How to get Ellipsend connected to Facebook and Instagram again after a password change, a disconnect email, or a connection that expired.

Ellipsend connects to your accounts through a Facebook login. When that login stops being valid, messages stop arriving and every send fails. A changed Facebook password is the usual reason.

Signs You Need to Reconnect

  • You got the Page Disconnected email from Ellipsend.

  • The Meta card in Settings → Connections shows Not connected next to your Facebook Page or your Instagram account.

  • Messages stopped arriving, or sends started failing for every contact, right after someone changed the Facebook password.

Step 1: Refresh Facebook Permissions

Start here. It's the quicker of the two fixes.

  1. Go to Settings → Connections.

  2. On the Meta card, click Refresh Facebook permissions. The button can show as an icon, so hover it to see its name.

  3. A Facebook window opens and asks whether to continue with your previous settings. Click Edit settings.

  4. Check that your Page, your Business, and your Instagram account are all selected, then finish the flow.

If no window opens, check that pop-ups are allowed in your browser. The full walkthrough is in Refresh Facebook Permissions.

Step 2: Log Out and Connect Again

If a refresh doesn't fix it, start the connection over.

  1. On the Meta card, click Log out of Facebook. Your Page and your Instagram account both show Not connected.

  2. Click Login With Facebook and go through the Facebook window again. Connecting Step by Step covers each screen.

  3. Back on the Meta card, click the Facebook row and select your Page. Then click the Instagram row and select your account.

If the page gets stuck loading along the way, refresh it and carry on.

Who Should Do This

Use the Facebook profile that has access to the Page and to the Instagram account. If someone else manages your Facebook Page, they need to be the one who logs in on the Facebook window.

Test It

Have someone DM your account from a profile that doesn't manage the Page. When it shows up in the inbox, reply to it. If both work, you're reconnected.

To hear about the next disconnect right away, keep the Page Disconnected email on in Notifications.

Still Not Working

A connection that shows Connected can still miss messages for other reasons. Work through Messages Aren't Arriving: The Connection Checklist, or click the Need Help? tab on the right edge of the screen and tell us what you see on the Meta card.
