See Where a Message Came From

Every message you send a contact now shows whether a person sent it from Ellipsend, an automation sent it, a follow-up sent itself, or it came from outside Ellipsend.

Why the Avatar Changed

Open any conversation in the inbox and look at the avatar next to a message you sent. Most of them look the way they always did: a teammate's photo or initials. A few now carry a small badge in the corner, and automation messages have a new avatar of their own. That badge is the answer to a question we hear a lot: "I didn't send that, so who did?"

Ellipsend now checks every outgoing message and marks the ones a person didn't type into the inbox. Messages from contacts, and system lines like stage changes, never get a badge.

The Three Marks

Ellipsend automation. The avatar is a dark circle with a robot. One of your automations sent this message, for example the opening DM after a comment or the resource link that follows it.

Automatic follow-up. The photo or initials of the teammate who scheduled it, with a small clock in the corner. They set it up ahead of time, and it went out on its own when it was due.

Appears sent outside Ellipsend. Your account's avatar with a small arrow pointing out of a box. Someone replied from the Instagram or Facebook app, or from another tool, and Ellipsend synced the message in. There is no Ellipsend send record for it.

No badge means a teammate sent the message from Ellipsend, on web or in the app.

Reading the Card

Hover over a badge on desktop, or tap it on a touch screen, and a small card opens with the name of the mark and one line explaining it. Only one card opens at a time, and the Escape key closes it.

Where It Helps

The practical use is the handoff. A setter who opens a conversation and sees a robot avatar knows the automation did the talking and the contact has not spoken to a person yet. A clock means the last nudge was an automatic follow-up, and the avatar under it tells you whose follow-up it was, so the next message should sound like that person picking the thread back up. An arrow out of a box means someone on the account answered from the Instagram app, which is worth knowing before you reply twice.
